Ballet Bonanza: ‘Beauty’ at the Granada

In a rare confluence of professional ballet companies performing on the same night in two of this theater city’s jewels in the crown, State Street Ballet’s Chaplin competes with another encore presentation, this one of The Sleeping Beauty from International Ballet Stars. The touring ensemble brings its lavish spectacle to the Granada on Friday, May 8, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the magical world of Princess Aurora, doomed to a century-long slumber by the wicked fairy Carabosse, and awakened by true love’s kiss. The performance of the classic fable, originally written in the 17th century boasts the iconic choreography by (original Nutcracker choreographer) Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable melodies, and a dazzling cast of ballet stars from more than a dozen countries. These include principal dancers from Ukraine, Moldova, Japan, Belarus, Italy, Spain, Armenia and Brazil. Brand-new sets, stunning hand-painted scenery, and gorgeous, artisanally-crafted costumes come together to create a truly spectacular experience for all ages (3 and up).
