New Fashion Boutiques and Curated Art Arriving to Montecito

By Joanne A Calitri   |   May 18, 2026

Hello Loves! For fashionistas and lovers of art with local history, this is for you.

Margaret O’Leary boutique is set to arrive this summer at 1235 Coast Village Road, (formerly the Whistle Club). The woman-founded brand has been in business for over 30 years and is independently owned. Their focus is on “timeless knitwear and pieces meant to be worn for years.”

O’Leary’s Director of Growth Marketing in San Francisco, Tracy Jankowski, reached out to me a few weeks ago. We are planning a proper introduction of the brand and spoilers for our readers soon! In the interim she shares, “Montecito has long felt like a natural extension of how we think about style and lifestyle, effortless, considered, and community-driven, and we’re genuinely excited about the opportunity to become part of the neighborhood in that same spirit.”

On another front, La Ligne Clothes is planning to open at the Montecito Country Mart. The precise opening date has not been announced as yet, and the location is near Alma Fonda Fina. Press releases in local papers and online sites are stating that La Ligne is to open in Suite D, the George’s Pet Store space. These claims are not accurate.

As for the brand, La Ligne (aka French for “the line”) is the brand’s timestamp of striped – everything! The brand states that their, “…unique utilization of the stripe on a garment acknowledges the infinite forms that can take shape – from an iconic Breton stripe to a simple piping detail, to a bold color block. With this philosophy, La Ligne offers both timeless and seasonally urgent styles that enable women to distinctively make the stripe their own.” The brand is co-founded by former Vogue editors, Meredith Melling and Valeria Macaulay, joined by Molly Howard (Rag & Bone). Seen wearing the clothes are Mark Ronson and Grace Gummer.

The theme focuses on the local surf culture with film and photographs, curated by Olivia Joffrey. The exhibit highlights local surf stories, traditions, and spirit. Surfing photos included are Renny Yater 1969 Rincon Swell and a tribute to him, George Greenough, the “Yater Spoon” surfboard briefly onscreen in the film Apocalypse Now (1978, the classic war film co-written by Coppola and Big Wednesday writer/director John Milius), Pat and Tom Curren at Rincon (1974), Al and Britt Merrick, Shaun Tomson (1977), Big Wednesday at Hollister Ranch (1978), and more.

And just in case you need another reason to celebrate… National BBQ Day is happening on May 16. Looking for a steakhouse outside the area… but cozy like Montecito? Check out the award-winning smokehouse Whiskey ‘N Rye, Solvang, founded by Don Conner (he also owns Que restaurant in SB). Connor is said to have studied regional barbecue from Kansas City to North Carolina before returning to California to craft his own West Coast style.  Whiskey ‘N Rye’s Corporate Executive Chef is Bryan Aceves., and the menu features bold, smoky flavors across brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. And yes, darlings – for vegans there is smoked spaghetti squash. There are also whiskey pairing events and a VIP club…
