SBEF Marks 40 Years
The Santa Barbara Education Foundation (SBEF) celebrated its 40th anniversary on April 23 with a milestone event that raised more than $300,000 in support of local students and public schools. The evening welcomed more than 200 guests, including community leaders, educators, and supporters, to honor four decades of impact across the Santa Barbara Unified School District.
A highlight of the night was a $100,000 gift from Sara Miller McCune through the Léni Fund to benefit the BRAVO! afterschool music program, alongside additional leadership gifts supporting teachers and classroom initiatives. Proceeds will fund SBEF’s core programs, including Teacher Grants, Student Grants, and Keep the Beat, which has already provided more than 2,500 musical instruments to students.

The program featured student performances and powerful testimonials from educators and alumni, underscoring the Foundation’s far-reaching influence. A keynote conversation with Angel Martinez, former CEO of Deckers Brands, and the MJ’s Gwyn Lurie reflected on the transformative power of public education.
Since 1985, SBEF has served as a vital bridge between community generosity and student opportunity, continuing to shape brighter futures across the region.
