As we close in on (the big day and heartfelt devotional of your choice), it’s important to recall that All This Feeling fuels the eternal cosmic gyre; not to go all sentimental on you. As we hang stockings with care and otherwise happily surrender to the curious seasonal giddiness, we may not be able to concretely pinpoint the source of all this free-floating goodwill, but we absolutely know these energies are distinctly love-shaped.

Yes, at risk of dispensing a message so glycemic it threatens to form actual sugar cubes in the bloodstream (*rarely a positive condition, though cannibals have few complaints), we must remember this: whatever token you choose to gift your treasured pals and family members – not that these roles are mutually exclusive – it is your love that fuels the grand, unsung engine that drives this exquisite mess. Yeah, LOVE. What may seem at times like a marketing concept is in fact a universe-permeating field. Seriously now. Love is not mere “emotion,”, “procreative catalyst,” or “runaway endocrine” (the current faddist theory).

As the sages, ascetics, and bespectacled Liverpudlian have been murmuring all along, love is the bottom line – the candelabra on the Periodic Table. Tune out the noise and revel. And for goodness sake, when attempting to codify your deepest feelings in a seasonal token of year-end affection, pluck something from a shelf somewhere in these crazily blessed environs. Yup. Be the village.
