SB Rescue Women’s Auxiliary Holiday Tea for Bethel House

The Santa Barbara Rescue Mission (SBRM) Women’s Auxiliary Annual Bethel House Christmas Tea for its women in recovery was held on Wednesday, December 10 at the home of Susan Hughes. The event has been a holiday happening for over ten years.
This much-anticipated holiday tea with goodies is fully supported by the women members of the Auxiliary who volunteer to bake goodies for the afternoon and spend quality time with the women seeking support at the Rescue Mission.
I was greeted by the SBRM Women’s Auxiliary President Cindy Anderson, who said of the event, “We have a wonderful group of women from our auxiliary here participating this year. There’s lot of wonderful energy between the women at Bethel House and our women auxiliary members. We are so excited to share this time of interacting and encouraging the women who are in Bethel House. If you want to join our auxiliary, we usually have a tea for interested women in January and new members join in March.”
The Holiday Tea program starts with a reception. Next is singing Christmas Carols and reading selections from scripture. The event concludes with breakout rooms for one-on-one sessions with the Women’s Auxiliary members and the Bethel House residents to share and build friendship.

Seen at the tea were Susan’s daughter Sarah Douglas who is on the Rescue Mission Board, and Women’s Auxiliary members Dianne Davis, Suzette Miller, Nancy Melekian, and Kirsten Walters.
The SBRM Women’s Auxiliary supports SBRM through fundraising for its in-house programs and community outreach. The Bethel House Women’s Residential Treatment Program is a 12-month, faith-centered, 12-step social model program. Residents are provided with a living and learning environment that addresses the issues of addiction in a holistic way. SBRM provides immediate help and lasting hope to those with no place else to go via a 12-month residential recovery program to men and women who desire to break free from cycles of addiction, poverty, homelessness,
and crime.
