Westmont men’s soccer (3-5-4, 1-1-1, PacWest) powered through 95-degree heat at Thorrington Field on October 3, delivering a 3-0 shutout victory over conference opponent Jessup (2-6-1, 0-1).

Following a scoreless first half in which both teams recorded three shots on goal, the Warriors broke through in the 53rd minute. Julius Oehmichen lofted a pass across the 18-yard box to Cash Anderholt, who beat the Jessup goalkeeper with a right-footed shot inside the right post for his first goal of the season.

Following a second-half hydration break, Westmont expanded its lead in the 77th minute when Cooper Matthews sent a long pass from inside his own half to Leonel Olivo Ortiz. Olivo Ortiz beat his defender, rounded the keeper, and finished with his left foot. Just three minutes later, the Warriors put the match away. Olivo Ortiz and Anderholt combined down the right side to set up a loose ball inside the six-yard box, which Matthews volleyed into the corner of the net.

Goalkeeper Aidan Strickler earned his third career shutout, making three saves to raise his season total to 40. Every healthy field player saw action for Westmont in the win.

The Warriors travel to the Aloha State for games against Hawaii Pacific, Chaminade, and Hawaii Hilo on October 10-15.
