Vehicle Fire / Fuel Depot — Saturday, May 16, at 19:27 hours

While en route to a 415 PC (Disturbing the Peace) fight on Whitney and Olive, deputies were requested to assist with a vehicle fire at the Fuel Depot gas station in Summerland. Deputies arriving on scene found the vehicle engulfed in flames about 20 feet from the gas pumps. A deputy attempted to douse the fire with a fire extinguisher but couldn’t get close enough due to the intense heat. Deputies then evacuated the onlookers, gas station employees, and curious customers and onlookers that were drawn to the fire. Montecito Fire arrived a few minutes later and knocked out the fire. (Summerland FD was already staged for the 415 fight on Whitney and Olive and were unavailable.) CHP arrived shortly thereafter.

Assault and Battery Elderly / Whitney Avenue/Olive Street — Saturday, May 16, at 19:23 hours

Deputies were dispatched to a 415 physical fight in progress at Whitney Ave./Olive St. in Summerland. An elderly Summerland resident walking his dog on Whitney Ave. was attacked by the suspect, who approached the victim, got within inches of his face, and threatened to beat him up. The victim retrieved a metal “No Parking” post from the side of the street and used it to try to keep the subject from attacking him. Subject took the victim to the ground (in the street) and forcibly held him down telling the victim how strong he was. The victim shouted for help and was in fear for his life/safety and the safety of his dog. The victim had bloodied arms and face and sustained several abrasions to both forearms. The subject’s mother reported subject suffers from schizophrenia and has recently expressed disdain for the victim. The mom further said subject has on a previous occasion verbally harassed the victim while the victim walked his dog, but this was the first time the subject had physically attacked him. Subject was arrested and booked at SBJ for 368PC and 422 PC.
