White Nectarines

Stone fruit season is here and the white nectarine, my absolute favorite, is featured this week at Burkdoll Farms. Originally from China, the fuzzless skin of this peach varietal is caused by a recessive gene, not a cross between a peach and plum as some believe. These little nutrition powerhouses are packed with fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. Their vitamin C content is excellent for skin health thanks to vitamin C’s role in collagen production. It also is great for our immune systems by supporting antibody production. The fiber content in nectarines helps support our digestive systems, preventing constipation, supports our overall gut microbiome, and helps to lower bad cholesterol. Its content of lutein and zeaxanthin protects our eyes from degenerative diseases and contains those incredible free radical fighting flavonoids. Nectarines also are a good source of potassium which helps to lower our blood pressure. These delicious and flavorful stone fruits are a summer essential, whether raw or eaten in salad or dessert.
