Deputies responded to a male subject suffering from mental health issues. The subject was throwing potted plants over a balcony onto his mother’s vehicle parked below. Reporting Party (RP) was subject’s mother, who did not want to file any charges and wanted him to be transported to the hospital. Two of subject’s friends were with him when deputies arrived on scene. The friends offered to take him to the hospital, explaining that he was calm but that he would become extremely angry if he saw the officers. This proved to be the case, and subject became highly agitated and attempted to throw another large ceramic pot in the deputies’ direction. Since the presence of deputies was escalating the situation, deputies withdrew to their vehicles so subject’s friends could calm him down and take him to the hospital. A social worker had been contacted by the RP, and arrived on scene, telling deputies he was going to speak with subject and put him in a hold. He was advised of subject’s temperament and that subject’s friends were attempting to transport him. The social worker advised he had a long relationship with subject and wanted to go and speak with him. Concerned for the social worker’s safety, deputies positioned themselves in the residence, the better to protect the social worker. Subject brandished a broken bottle at the social worker, grabbed a meat cleaver from the kitchen and advanced on him. Deputies held subject at gunpoint until he dropped the meat cleaver and took him into custody without further incident.

The security officer told him that security was unaware of any jobs being worked on at that hour. The security officer said the subject also described the gate house to her and said he had taken pictures of the property. The subject told the security officer that if she hung up, he would come full force with his guys.
