Sansum Clinic and Sutter Health in Talks for Partnership

By Montecito Journal   |   May 8, 2023

On May 5, 2023, Sansum Clinic and Sutter Health announced they have entered into exclusive discussions with each other, with plans to sign a non-binding letter of intent this week to enter into a strategic partnership.

The two organizations have begun “exclusive discussions with each other” with the partnership expected to be formalized in the following weeks.

Sansum, being one of the largest health care providers along the central coast, and the Sacramento-based Sutter Health that operates 24 acute care hospitals and over 200 clinics in Northern California, said in the statement that this partnership will allow the two to provide “more primary care and ambulatory multi-specialty care” as well as the ability to expand services and bring “more physicians and clinicians to the region.”

In the announcement, Sansum and Sutter cited their similar 100+ year history (both being founded in 1921), shared values, and not-for-profit statuses as a solid foundation for this emerging relationship.

With the health care industry nationwide facing new challenges, the organizations stated that “this partnership provides us the resources necessary to invest in best serving our patients and communities for generations to come.”

The Montecito Journal will continue to cover this story as more information emerges.
