The Kensington Palace apartment of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, is costing nearly $2 million to put into move-in condition.

The 21-room pad, formerly the home of the Duke of Gloucester, grandson of King George V, and his family, had to have a completely new roof after decades of patch repairs, evidence of batten decay and structural repairs to myriad chimneys.

The hefty costs are revealed in the annual Sovereign Grant report.

The tony twosome will be moving in due course from the cosy two-bedroom Nottingham Cottage, making them next-door neighbors to Harry’s brother, Prince William and his wife, Kate.
