Dave Bradley, Emily Frazier, Suzanne Jakubowski, and Peter "Ace" Angeloff celebrate completion of another fine and rewarding Laguna Blanca Alumni Scholarship Fund fundraiser at La Cumbre Country Club

The Sixth Annual Ace Angeloff Alumni Scholarship Fund Golf Classic, held once more at La Cumbre Country Club golf course on November 6, featured a hole-in-one contest that promised a new BMW to a lucky golfer (no one won that particular prize), but there were “closest to the pin” contests on all the par threes and Jeff Martin‘s tee shot at hole #5 came within 1’6″ of being a real hole-in-one. Other challenges included a pre-event putting contest, an on-course golf poker game, a “guess your correct distance” game on hole #1, and more. Out on the course, soda, water, and beer were available to go along with the sandwich lunch provided. Raffle tickets for a slew of prizes at the end of the full scramble were sold in chains of eight, so ticket holders could hold on to their tickets until all were picked, as one could win again with the same number.

The event was dreamed up by Laguna Blanca alumnus David Smith Bradley five years ago and was co-chaired by Suzanne Jakubowski. Emily Frazier of Pin-Up Golf, a 20-year-old company that arranges some 200 to 300 such tournaments a year all over Southern California (pinupgolf.com), headed up the day’s effort. In addition to a number of golf clubs given away in the raffle, a special surprise was the Alisal 2013 Pinot Noir, awarded three bottles at a time to lucky ticket holders, one of whom was me.

Winners of the A-flight team with a 54(!) were Suzanne Jakubowski, David Bartman, Jeff Martin, and Mike Hultberg. B-flight winners with a 62 were Blake Dorfman, Jim Alzina, Dillon Bennett, and Matt Morgan. Long Drive contest winners were Tim Morton-Smith and Ms Jakubowski.

The Montecito Journal B-flight team of (from left) Carlos Lopez, David Owen, Jim Buckley, and Dennis Franz turned in a respectable 71; they had a great time, despite their miserably inadequate attempt to walk away with first place
