Border Line Disorder

So much talk these days about our southern border. Not to mention Mexico has challenges with its own southern border. At least in our all new Riv mag you can see some positive interventions to the border space. Ronald Rael’s pink seesaws through the border wall may have created the perfect metaphor. What happens here effects there, and vice versa. As they will, politically separated kids used the wall as a medium for joined frolic. What do they understand that we adults resolutely do not?

The Riv showcases other fascinating border wall innovations as well. The Border Banquet was amazing and visually arresting (no one was actually arrested). And there’s the “Fandango Fronterizo” concert at the border that happens every year, with musicians and audience on both sides.

And the Riv also looks at a couple of less sane migration solutions people have tried. Some people have attempted to literally drive an SUV up and over the border wall. And the artist Javier Tellez once successfully shot a HUMAN CANNONBALL from Tijuana into San Diego.

This worked for two important reasons: 1: the man who did it was a professional cannonball (kids, don’t try this at home). And 2: said cannonball had a U.S. passport and had been pre-approved by the U.S. Border Patrol.

The Riv also asks the important question given the amount of legroom in coach and the problems with air traffic control and the TSA: is being shot out of a giant gun really the worst way to return to the States?
