Montecito’s Next Top Dog! And More Pup Culture!

Coast Village Road is going to the dogs, and one lucky pup could walk away as Top Dog.

Grab your four-legged friend, strike a paws and get ready for their close-up. Snap a photo of your pup, scan the QR code and enter for a chance to be featured in the Montecito Journal and win a custom sketch of your canine companion by artist Peter Horjus, valued at $750.

While pups can enter with a photo taken anywhere, those photographed on Coast Village Road will have the greatest chance of winning, so consider this the perfect excuse for a little dog-about-town moment. Pose outside a favorite shop, restaurant or familiar Village haunt and let your pup work their best side.

Coast Village Road’s dog-friendly merchants are ready to welcome four-legged visitors, so make a day of it. Bring the treats, fluff the fur, and start practicing that sit-and-stay. Fame may only be a few tail wags away.

The winner will be announced on October 1st in the next issue of the Montecito Journal!

Clear the Kennels

Santa Barbara County Animal Services is hoping local shelters will soon be a little less crowded and plenty of local homes a little furrier.

Through September 30, SBCAS is joining the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s national Empty the Shelters campaign, with adoption fees waived at all three county shelter locations in Santa Barbara, Lompoc, and Santa Maria. The campaign also includes pets from ASAP Cats and BUNS at SBCAS’ Santa Barbara campus. Every adoptable pet has already been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped, with 30 days of free pet insurance included for animals adopted during the event.

Among those looking to fetch himself a forever home is Thor, an English Pointer mix with a mighty name and a softer side. He may greet kennel visitors with a bark worthy of the God of Thunder, but once outside, Thor is all zoomies, curiosity, and canine charm. He already knows “sit” and is working on adding a few more tricks to his résumé.

With fees waived through September 30, now may be the paw-fect time to meet a new best friend.
