Always Happy, Always Talking About His Family

By Montecito Journal   |   September 15, 2026

Editor’s note: The following letter remembers Pedro Rivera, the longtime Santa Barbara and Montecito bartender who was struck and killed by a car on Coast Village Road on August 2.

My family (Cheri, Garret and Sierra) enjoyed talking with Pedro at the restaurant, Teddy’s by the Sea, every other week for the past two years! Pedro always came over to talk with us, always happy, always talking of his love for his family and so much love for his granddaughter, who he had just visited the month before his passing to Heaven! Pedro will be greatly missed. God bless Pedro, and bless his surviving family!

With love,

Cheri Garlinger

A Pinch of Salt for the Water Column

Another GOL – Guffaw Out Loud – for Jeff Wing’s piece on hydration last week.

Consider:

Putting a half teaspoon of a good sea salt like Maldon into a 24 oz. tankard will go a long way in your “water journey.”

Not Morton’s, a chemical factory-salt which has none of the key minerals that we need.

Water before your morning Joe is best – we all wake up in hydro-deficit. The coffee doesn’t actually “count,” as it’s also a diuretic.

Your brain and kidneys will thank you.

Salt-less water leaches the much-needed minerals from our cells, and our gazillions of intracellular mitochondria need those to do their constant little energy-dance.

Bottoms up!
