Supporters of the Society of California Pioneers as well as Bohemian Grove members gathered last week at the Santa Barbara Club to tour the clubhouse and view the impressive California art collection.

Regional Director Keith Moore and Pioneers board member Vicki Englert welcomed guests to the Santa Barbara Club which was founded in 1892. Former President John Doordan led a tour of the building, which is on the United States historic register. Guests flew down from the Bay Area for the week to immerse themselves in the history of our beautiful city.

Founded in 1850, the Society of California Pioneers, based in San Francisco, is comprised of those families who have resided in California since pre-statehood. The Society of California Pioneers maintain a museum for statewide scholarly research as well as presenting exhibitions on California history and regional art.

After the tour, luncheon members then were led on a private tour of the Santa Barbara Historical Museum by Moore, a former board member and docent chair. Maria McCall and Beverly Cavaliere graciously hosted the lunch on Emma’s patio at the club and entertained guests with the history of Santa Barbara’s Fiesta which goes back over 100 years. Historic postcards were gifted to the members attending, which date back to the 1940s and depict the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, another local
regional landmark.
