VADA Talks… at VADA

By Steven Libowitz   |   May 20, 2025

VADA Talks is an ongoing series of events featuring renowned guests from varied professions as they discuss how art has inspired the work they do. The series was created to support The Visual Art & Design Academy at Santa Barbara High School, which integrates rigorous academic coursework with project-based, career-focused art and design instruction in a supportive and creative environment. This week for the first time the event will be presented on site at VADA in the brand new building that houses that program and more.

The May 19 illustrated presentation features JeffJ.K.Lovelace – Royal Museum Greenwich’s Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2021 – and fellow photog Dr. Erik Lucero, Lead Engineer & Site Lead at Google Quantum AI in Santa Barbara. The discussion – centered on capturing beauty in distant stars and microscopic quantum processors alike – will be facilitated by Dr. Silvia Perea, Architect and Curator of the Architecture and Design Collection at UCSB’s AD&A Museum.
