Historical ‘Vision’

English-born artist Don Louis Perceval is the focus of the latest exhibition at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum with His Vision of the West, which runs through August 17.
Curated by Marlene Miller, Perceval’s interests were mainly the colorful people and cultures native to the desert realms. Perceval made Montecito his home for the last 20 years of his life until his death in 1979.
The Hopi and Navajo in their environment became a major part of his oeuvre. His illustrations appeared more than 50 publications and he became a leading expert in cattle brands and the history of branding in general.
Checking out the abundant art were David Bolton, Robert Adams, Oscar Gutierrez, Sybil Rosen, and museum director Dacia Harwood.
