A Bold Take on the Iliad

By Steven Libowitz   |   April 7, 2021

In a COVID coincidence, the second weekend of the school’s zany take on Greek myth cozies up to a more serious – and perhaps even more ambitious – approach to some of the same material in the Ensemble Theatre Company’s live stream of the one-man show, An Iliad.

The work is crafted around the stories of Achilles and Hector as a way into Homer’s classic epic poem, resulting in a powerful and lively piece of theatrical storytelling with the single actor and a musician vividly driving home the timelessness of mankind’s compulsion toward violence. ETC’s artistic director Jonathan Fox directs the production featuring frequent ETC guest John Tufts (I Am My Own Wife) with live music by Jonathan Flaksman, assistant principal cellist of the Santa Barbara Symphony. The five performances from April 15-18 will be streamed live from the stage at the New Vic. Visit https://etcsb.org
