Surf ‘n’ Suds, Pandemic Edition

By Steven Libowitz   |   August 13, 2020

The folks who run these one-time beachside events are getting pretty good at doing them online considering the first three have sold out. Maybe that’s because while the meet and greet and see-who-you-can-pick-up action can only happen virtually, the beer is real, as the organizers send samples to your home in advance. And while it’s not all-you-can-drink, the variety packs feature 14-pack cans, either 12 oz. or 16 oz., from as many different craft breweries from all over California, plus a few out of state beers and a hard cider. That’s enough for you to share among two or more household members, if you wait til the actual event on Saturday, August 22, to rack open the case-plus.

The festivities take place 12 pm to 3 pm live and direct from BarrelHouse 101 in downtown Ventura. Even though you can’t be there in person, you can still enjoy a walkthrough of the selections that come from Big Stump Brew Co. (Sacramento), Crooked Lane Brewing Co. (Auburn), Hard Frescos (San Francisco), High Water Brewing (Lodi), Kona Brewing (Kona, HI) and locals Hollister Brewing (Goleta) and Leashless Brewing (Ventura), among others. There will be music by The Hubcap Stealers, Reece Galido from The Kicks and Santa Barbara’s DJ Hecktik, and in an attempt to make the online experience feel more like an on-site Surf ‘n’ Suds, there are even prizes for best in-house setup, so get your domicile dialed in and yourself dolled up for the sudsy stuff.

The 14-pack will be mailed to your house by Friday, August 21, where someone at least 21 must be there to receive it (so don’t try this on your own, kids, without the folks involved). The $75 ticket includes shipping cost, brewery swag, and a souvenir glass. Visit https://nightout.com/events/surf-n-suds-home-fest-august-22nd for details.
